Family Programs


Whoville Who-le-bration

Date: Friday, December 16
Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Location: CES
Fee: $6 R / $8 NR Child
$8 R / $10 NR Adult

Join us for the 2011 Whoville Who-le-bration! This popular family event fills up fast – don’t wait to register! Together, the CHS Family & Consumer Education classes and the Cambridge CAP are hosting this exciting event.

The Grinch himself will be present in the CES Little Theater to share the tale of the The Grinch That Stole Christmas. Children and parents can stroll the streets of Whoville between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The Whoville Bakery, along with the ever popular Hair Design Boutique will be open. Arts and craft projects will take place at each Whoville shop. Don’t forget to wear your favorite pajamas or Who-ville attire!

Last, but not least, the “feast of beast” will be held in the CES commons. A buffet style meal will be available from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Spots fill quickly and will not be held without payment. Registration for this event is not available online.

Pirates Plunge Splash Party

Date: Thursday, December 29
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Location: CACP
Fee: $3 R / $6 NR (no charge for parents or chaperones)

Join us as we slip, slide and splash the night away at Cambridge Pool. Staff will be organizing a variety of land and water activities like soggy shirt relays, walking the plank, treasure hunt, and many other contests. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult and children age 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the pool at all times.

Westside Park Skate Rink

The Village of Cambridge proudly offers the Westside Park ice skating rink to residents of the community. The rink is poured and maintained by the village staff. The rink and warming house are open to community residents daily from dawn to dusk.

Together with the Village of Cambridge, CAP will have the concession stand open and staffed. Enjoy a cup of hot cocoa, a hot dog, or snacks while you warm up from ice skating, sledding, or hockey. During staffed hours limited skates, skating aids, hockey sticks and pucks, skis and sledding equipment will be available for check out. CAP is accepting donations of gently used skates and other winter recreation equipment to provide to the community – skates may be dropped of in the CAP office during business hours.

Get Out & Play Snow Day

Date: Saturday, February 18
(Weather date: February 19)
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Location: West Side Park
Fee: FREE

You won’t want to miss this outdoor winter event designed for the whole family! Free ice skate, cross country ski, snow shoe and sled rentals will be available for the entire family. Enjoy hot cocoa and coffee with cookies, cross country ski instruction, ice and snow sculpture demonstrations, snowman building contests, and much more!

Flick & Float

Date: Thursday, February 23
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Location: CACP
Fee: $3 R / $6 NR (no charge for parents or chaperones)

Spend quality time with your family floating in the pool and watching a movie projected on the big screen. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult and children age 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the water at all times.

Underwater Egg Hunt

Date: Thursday, April 5
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Location: CACP
Fee: $3 R / $6 NR (no charge for parents or chaperones)

An Easter Egg hunt you won't want to miss. Swimmers of all abilities will have the opportunity to collect eggs from the bottom of the pool and receive treats for their efforts! Both land and water activities will provide for everyone. Children under the age of 12 must accompanied by an adult and children age 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the water at all times.

Underwater Egg Hunt will occur in varying depths of water to allow participation by all swimming levels:

Shallow end (3 ½' deep) and tot dock will be for non-swimmers and younger egg hunters. Some eggs will be floating.

3 ½' to 5 ½' deep is the shallow end and the lap lanes. Great location for grade school and swimming preschoolers to swim to the bottom and retrieve eggs.

8’ to 13’ deep is end of lane 7, 8 and the diving well. Great for older students who enjoy the challenge of swimming to greater depths to retrieve eggs.

Baseball Bowling Fundraiser

Date: Friday, April 27

Location: Lake Ripley Lanes
Fee: $20 per team of two

Join the Youth Baseball program to raise funds for the Cambridge CAP baseball teams. This Scottish Doubles bowling tournament is open to everyone. A night of bowling, raffles, and family fun!

Touch-A-Truck & Bike Rodeo

Date: Saturday, May 12
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: CHS East Parking Lot
Fee: FREE

Join us for the ninth annual Touch-A-Truck event! Don’t miss your chance to see the vehicles that fascinate you up close and hands on, including emergency and military vehicles, farm equipment, and much more. Registration is not required for this free event. Don’t forget your camera for this wonderful photo opportunity! In conjunction with Touch-A-Truck, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office will also be hosting a bike rodeo. A bike rodeo is designed to be a fun, educational and hands on way for children and parents to learn about bike safety. There will also be a bike technician available to do a safety check on the bikes. An adult must attend along with the bike riders. Free bike helmets will be provided for the first 50 participants to arrive. Participants who complete the course will be eligible for a prize drawing.
