Cambridge CAP Youth Center


Days: Mondays – Fridays, School year
Time: 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Location: NMS Rooms 317 & 318
Grades: Cambridge Students 5 – 8
Fee: FREE

The Youth Center offers a safe place for youth to participate in positive social, recreational, educational, and community service activities under the supervision of professional staff. The Youth Center is open to Cambridge students grades 5 - 8 at no cost, but students must have a registration form on file to attend.

Activities include: open gym, computers, homework club, crafts, video games, foosball, board & card games, football, movies, billiards, youth council, outdoor games & activities, field trips, tv, ping pong, basketball, socializing with friends, filtered internet, and snacks.


Special Hours

Winter Special
Dates: December 28 & 29
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Students who attend the Youth Center during special hours will enjoy pizza for lunch. Transportation will also be available at 1:00 p.m. to the Cambridge Pool for open swim (normal open swim fees and rules apply).

School's Out Sessions

Dates: January 22, February 25, March 29 & 30, May 7
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location: CAP Youth Center
Grades: 5 – 8
Fee: FREE

When school is out, the Youth Center is the place to be! If your child attends the Youth Center on any of these dates, they will participate in special games in the gym or outside, a craft, and a movie with popcorn to end the afternoon. Pizza will be provided for lunch on these date; students also have the option of bringing a sack lunch.

Closed

The Youth Center will be closed December 23 – 25, and December 30 – January 1, february 26, March 5, March 31 - April 2, and May 31.

Code of Conduct

• Respect the staff, equipment, building, and peers.
• Sign in when you arrive and sign out when you leave.
• If you leave you may not be allowed back in. You may be allowed back in if your parents talk to the staff.
• School appropriate behavior is expected.
• Only use appropriate language.
• No wandering in the NMS beyond the Youth Center boundaries; this may result in additional disciplinary actions from the middle school principal.
• Unruly, physically aggressive, or dangerous behavior is unacceptable.
• Anyone in possession of improper or illegal substances will be subject to disciplinary and/or legal actions.
• No bullying.
• Inappropriate expressions of affection will not be permitted.
• Absolutely no food, gum, or beverages in the gym.
• Snacks and refreshments may only be consumed at designated tables.
• Clean up after yourself.
*Two warnings from staff in one day will result in a one week suspension from all Youth Center Programs. * Disrespect to staff may result in immediate suspension from the Youth Center without warning. *1st Suspension – 1 Week *2nd Suspension – 2 Weeks *3rd Suspension – 1 Month * Further Suspensions – 1 Year and/or suspension from all Community Activities Programs. Student must also have a follow-up meeting with CAP staff prior to returning to Youth Center and/or CAP programs

HOURS

• The Youth Center is open Monday – Friday from 3 – 6 pm.
• On early release days or no school days, the Youth Center will have modified hours.
• The Youth Center is closed on all major Holidays.
• The Youth Center is also closed when school is closed due to inclement weather.
• Check the monthly calendar in the Youth Center for any other changes.


Cambridge Community Activities Program ©2008 CAP   HOMEWORK CLUB
 The Homework Club meets daily at the Youth Center. Students earn points to attain prizes for reaching each of the four point levels. Points are earned by: beginning homework promptly, working hard, helping others with homework, completing all work, working with the tutor, working on homework on Fridays, and attaining teacher’s proof of completion at school. Every two months the top 5 Homework Club point earners are also rewarded with a trip of their choice!


Youth Council

The Youth Council is a group of middle school youth who dedicate some of their time to help out the Youth Center and the community. The Youth Council is involved in planning programs, activities, and trips for the Youth Center, along with becoming involved in volunteering at the Youth Center and in the community. The Youth Council also assists in planning and implementing Youth Center fundraisers. Talk to the Youth Center staff if you are interested in having your child become a Youth Council member, or if you have a community service project idea for the Youth Council to tackle! These are some examples of events the Youth Council has participated in:
• Youth Service Day
• Spaghetti Dinners
• Skate-A-Thon
• Car Wash
• Raffle
• Trick-or-Treat So Others Can Eat Food Drive
• Youth Leadership Conference
• Pop Tab Drive for the Ronald McDonald House

Dance Parties

Dates: December 18, February 19 and April 16
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Location: NMS Historical Auditorium
Grades: 6 – 8
Fee: $5 or $4 with a canned good

Come with your friends to the Youth Center for a fun-filled Friday night! Each dance will have fun contests, Wii games, and a night full of dancing to a DJ. Concessions will also be available for students to purchase.

Fun Nights

Dates: January 15, March 19, May 21
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Location: CAP Youth Center
Grades: 6 – 8
Fee: $4

Come with your friends to the Youth Center for a fun-filled Friday night! Each Fun Night has something different to offer, including outdoor games, basketball, ping pong and pool tournaments, games in the gym, relay races, a movie, crafts, and more! The cost includes pizza for dinner. Registration is required.

Raising Dough for the Cambridge Youth Center with Papa Murphy's


The Youth Center is offering a convenient way for you to get your Papa Murphy's pizza and contribute to the
Youth Center at the same time!

Simply place your order by noon on the first Monday of each month, and pick up your order at the Youth Center on the first Tuesday of each month between 4:30-6:00 pm. The Youth Center will receive a portion of each sale!

Pick up will be at the Cambridge Youth Center, 211 South St. from 4:30-6:00 pm.
